High Net Worth individuals from China now account for 23% of the world’s billionaires; investors from China hugely significant for the London property market

High Net Worth investors from China are expected to grow even more prosperous in the Year of the Goat. The recently published Hurun Global Rich List 2015 found that China accounts for 23% of the world’s billionaires. With a projected annual GDP growth rate of over 7%, high net worth individuals in China will be an increasing source of investment flows into London’s property market. Recent research commissioned by international law firm Pinsent Masons estimates that over £36bn of investment is expected to flow from China into UK real estate between now and 2025, and by 2025 annual Chinese investment into the UK will reach £30bn. Hurun has also revealed that one in every three wealthy Chinese owns property overseas. These properties are mainly for residential use, property investment, or a place for their children to stay while studying abroad. Britain is one of the top 10 favoured destinations by Chinese property investors.

Interest in the London real estate sector is growing and is not just limited to individual investors – China Minsheng Investment Corp has recently chosen London for its first major international investment project. It will be leading a consortium investing over £2bn in London’s financial district.
